This week we focused on our solution. We created a survey about food allergies and sent it to other students that go to our school. Our solution is to focus on restaurants and how they deal with food allergy awareness. We have been calling restaurants that had bad ratings on the AllergyEats website which rates restaurants based on how allergy friendly they are. We asked the restaurants about how they deal with food allergies. It was surprising how some restaurants replied to this question. Some will say that they accommodate people with food allergies, which means that either there is a false rating on the website, the restaurant has made improvements, or the restaurant is not telling the complete truth. Some will also say they do not know how they deal with food allergies and if we ask to speak to the manager, most cannot find the manager at the time and say that they will not be available for awhile. There has been a struggle getting answers, but we will try our best and revise our plan. Another aspect of our plan is to get the website AllergyEats to change their setup so it is easier to understand. We have emailed the website with some suggestions and received a response which says that the website is taking our suggestions into consideration. We hope that we will soon see a new and improved website. However, right now, our biggest problems are figuring out a way to measure our impact on restaurants, find restaurants to talk to that will listen to us, which we hope to find through our survey, and making sure that our impact is sustainable. We are in a tough spot at this time and are trying to find, restaurants to email, what to email them, and how we came measure the impact and see if it is sustainable.
